It was 4:30 AM on a Monday when inspiration struck, and I decided to attempt the impossible. I knew I would not be able to sleep after envisioning how I could write and publish an entire book in about a day.

I knew my topic well, having written blog posts and two books about inspiring generosity in church congregations. I had my own experience in leading a congregation for over 30 years. And I knew my mailing list provided a ready audience of 3,000 pastors seeking resources on this subject.

In recent weeks, I had befriended a rather slow but thorough AI research assistant. My slow-poke friend was good. It could write in my own style and voice. This was the tireless help I needed.

First, I gathered my existing materials on generosity, stewardship, leadership, and giving. I picked four relevant blog posts and gave them to my AI assistant, asking for ten potential chapter titles. Within seconds, I had options to choose from.

Next, I had the AI review, expand the posts, and outline ten chapters, indicating where I needed more content. I supplemented the thinner sections with passages from a book I’d written years earlier.

I also provided 25 relevant quotes about generosity from theologians and authors, which my AI assistant expertly integrated.

In just a few hours, I had a 22,000-word rough draft. I wrote a quick introduction, preface, and afterward, to complete the manuscript. Then I worked it directly into a Word document and turned on my other smart buy annoying friend, Grammarly.

By 4:30 PM, my book was proofed and ready to publish. I dropped into a book-layout software program called Vellum. An hour or two later, about 12 hours I started, it was finished. In mere hours, I completed what would have normally taken months.

The next day I proofed things, chose a title, designed a smashing book cover, and sent the book to Amazon for review. Don’t believe me? It’s called “Inspiring Generosity,” and my last name is Roseberry. It is available for pre-order now!
